From October 17 to 24, 2022, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, became the vibrant backdrop for a transformative youth exchange program. This initiative brought together 30 enthusiastic young participants from five European countries, each facing unique economic, geographical, and social challenges. The week-long event was a celebration of diversity, unity, and the power of art to drive social change.
These 30 young adults embarked on an Erasmus+ journey that would be their gateway to self-discovery, human rights advocacy, and community involvement. For some, it was their first Erasmus+ experience, while others had a background in performance arts or had previously engaged in Forum Theatre plays. What united them all was an open-minded, inclusive attitude and a profound respect for human rights.
The program was a rich tapestry of activities designed to unlock creativity, foster dialogue, and promote understanding. These activities included brainstorming sessions, debates, simulations, role-playing, team building exercises, interpretation and improvisation techniques through theatre, and more.
The primary goal of this project was to guide young people from diverse sociocultural backgrounds through a journey of self-discovery. Through physical expression, improvisation, and Forum Theatre, participants learned essential tools and communication skills to become champions of human rights advocacy and community involvement. This experience was rooted in non-formal education methodology, making learning an engaging and enriching process.
This remarkable youth exchange was more than just an event; it was an opportunity for personal growth, intercultural understanding, and the development of critical skills. By embracing the power of art and dialogue, these young participants left Puerto de la Cruz with a newfound passion for human rights and a commitment to creating positive change within their communities.
